About Laura

Laura has been around the game of volleyball as a player and a coach for over 35 years in Illinois, California, and Texas.  She began her collegiate playing career at Lewis University (DII) in Romeoville, IL.  She was named Rookie of the Year, Academic All-Conference, and Team Captain while at Lewis.  After her playing days, she became the youngest NCAA head volleyball coach in the country when she took over at Aurora University (DIII) in 1993.  From there, she became the head coach and Senior Women’s Administrator at Benedictine University (DIII) in Lisle, IL.  She produced the Northern Illinios Intercollegiate Conference “Player of the Year” and won the conference championship in 1997.

In 1998, Laura moved to Los Angeles, CA to become an assistant coach for the University of Southern California (USC).  She quickly moved to the men’s side of volleyball at USC and became the first-ever woman to coach men’s volleyball at the NCAA Division I level from 1998-2001.

Laura was also employed at USC from 1998-2022 as an academic advisor in the departments of Exercise Science, Kinesiology, and Human Biology.  She has assisted both athletes and non-athletes in academic planning and the pursuit of preparing for careers in health-related fields (i.e., medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, dentistry, physician assistant, and nursing).  She has 24 years of professional counseling experience and has placed students in some of the most prestigious pre-health programs in the country.

On the club scene, Laura has extensive experience coaching girls at Sports Performance Volleyball, Southern California Volleyball Club, and Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball.  On the boys side, she has 14 years of coaching experience at Balboa Bay Volleyball Club, Riptides Volleyball Club and Southern California Volleyball Club.

Laura earned her Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from Lewis University and Master of Education in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs from the University of Southern California.  She is married and has three children.  Her youngest daughter (Ayden) recently verbally committed to playing volleyball at the University of Nebraska.

College Recruiting Philosophy

“Playing a sport at the collegiate level is an experience that can change your life forever!  A college scholarship can open doors to opportunities you may have only dreamed of.  As a student-athlete, you will travel, have academic tutors, train in the most elite facilities, but most importantly, you will be pursuing your undergraduate degree.

Student-athletes are launched into situations that will build your character for the future.  Leadership, time management, and teamwork are just a few traits that future employers will be looking for.  The relationships you create with your teammates, coaches, and professors will stay with you for a lifetime.  There are more than 1,800 colleges to choose from, and I want to help you find the perfect fit!”
