Laura Ames - College Recruiting Director
Every young girl that starts club volleyball has a dream and reason for starting this beautiful sport. Some players play for fun, to make friends and memories, and some play for their future – everyone’s path may be different. The best and most dedicated athletes will pursue the opportunity to play collegiate volleyball and possibly earn a college scholarship. Volleyball is the most popular sport for young girls and there are many collegiate programs offering scholarship opportunities at different levels (NCAA D1, D2, D3, NJCAA, and NAIA programs). At 1 United, we understand the importance of College Recruiting for our athletes. We want to be there to facilitate and advocate for our players in their recruiting process.
Laura has been around the game of volleyball as a player and a coach for over 35 years in Illinois, California, and Texas. She began her collegiate playing career at Lewis University (DII) in Romeoville, IL. She was named Rookie of the Year, Academic All-Conference, and Team Captain while at Lewis. After her playing days, she became the youngest NCAA head volleyball coach in the country when she took over at Aurora University (DIII) in 1993. From there, she became the head coach and Senior Women’s Administrator at Benedictine University (DIII) in Lisle, IL. She produced the Northern Illinios Intercollegiate Conference “Player of the Year” and won the conference championship in 1997.
